David S. Petzel, age  63 of Carpentersville, IL passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2024 at his cabin in Coloma, WI. He was born on April 4, 1961 to Sylvester Petzel and Mary (Husick) Petzel-Wrzepski in Chicago where he was also raised. David earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Illinois Chicago. He enjoyed fishing, taking annual fishing trips to Canada, trout fishing near Coloma and fishing on the Fox River in Illinois. David loved his wife, children, his dogs and spending time in the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

David is survived by his loving wife: Cheryl Petzel; daughter: Jacqueline Petzel, son: Geoffrey (Melissa) Petzel; sister: Pam (Tom) Lisack; brother: Thomas (Carmella) Petzel; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Cynthia Petzel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12PM (NOON) on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 845 West Main Street St., West Dundee, IL 60118. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Saturday, April 27 from 10:30AM until the time of Mass at 12PM (NOON)

A memorial tree planting and celebration of life will take place at a later date at a later date and time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of David to The Friends of Dundee Natural Areas (https://www.friendsofdundeenaturalareas.com/donate). He was very passionate about natural area preservation and restoration. He was a Dundee Township Natural Area Steward where he lead the restoration of woodland and prairie habitat.
