David Lee Petzold, 83, a long-time resident of Altus, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, peacefully with his family by his side. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Kincannon Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 19th, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. BJ Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at the Navajoe Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
David was born on October 5, 1940, in Altus, Oklahoma to Ervin and Lillie (Bennett) Petzold. He attended and graduated from Friendship High School in 1958 and was a member of the Army National Guard. He later completed drafting classes in Oklahoma City. On July 12, 1967, David married Brenda Gay Campbell in Altus. To this union four children were born; Amber, Dusty, Talyan, and Tacara. David spent his life working as a farmer/rancher and raised competitive racehorses and greyhounds. He and Brenda were lifelong members of many organizations throughout the greyhound and horse racing industry. They had many lifetime accomplishments including the Greyhound Hall of Fame and a record holder in the Guiness Book of World Records.
Survivors include his children, Amber Hixon and husband, Richard, Dusty Petzold, Talyan Petzold and wife, Cheri, and Tacara Mardis; nine grandchildren, Evan Hixon, Hunter Hixon, Lane Petzold, Chancie Fielder, Chilo Sistrunk, Talayna Faddis, Laramie Bates, Cutter Mardis, and Cotton Mardis; fourteen great grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Allen and Debra Mardis; brothers, Jerry and wife, Alice and Alan; brother-in-law, Cooper; and many other friends and family.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Lillie; his wife, Brenda; and brother, Harvey.
