David Philabaum
David Burton Philabaum, 68, of Burlington died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 28, 1956, in Burlington, he was the son of Chester Lavern and Barbara Helen Blaufuss Philabaum. On Oct. 1, 1994, he married Vicki Joy Nebola in Burlington.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School. He received an Associates from SCC and continued his education at the University of Iowa receiving a Bachelor's in Computer Science in 1978.
David worked as a computer programmer for IAAP until his retirement in 2005.
He was an active, lifetime member of St. Luke United Church of Christ. David had a passion for astronomy. He attended conventions and was a member of the Southeastern Iowa Astronomy Club, helped with building the Witte Observatory. He liked music and enjoyed attending Bel Canto Concerts to support his wife. David seemed to always be helping others and was a part of Paint a Thon for years. He was also a hard worker and was very particular about his yard.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Philabaum of Burlington; sister, Susan (Kevin) Siegel of West Burlington and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Luke United Church of Christ.
The memorial service for Mr. Philabaum will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Luke United Church of Christ.
Memorials have been established for St. Luke United Church of Christ and Southeastern Iowa Astronomy Club, P.O. Box 14, West Burlington.
