David Charles Pickle, 71, passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 8, 2026 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Amory on October 23, 1954 to Bud Pickle and Earnestine Pearson Roberts. David was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1974. He was a talented football player and went to to play football at ICC and Delta State Community College. David worked for the Frisco Railroad in his younger years, later working as a Sales Rep for Vicon Hay Equipment. He is most notably remembered for owning and operating Pickle’s Handi Mart in Hatley alongside his wife, Vicki. David’s name was synonymous with Coon Hunting. For years he trained, handled and hunted some of the best coon hounds in the country. He trained and hunted many hounds that would go on to become Grand Night Champions and high earners. He competition hunted all across the United States. He also enjoyed the long lasting friendships that came with hunting. Never one to meet a stranger, David had the kind of personality that made you feel like you’ve know him all of your life. His life touched many people and that is the mark of a good man. He loved his children and would often brag about their success to others whether it was how well Lindsey’s life was going, Kris’s coaching career or Zac’s accomplishments, he was proud of them. He enjoyed working the last several years cutting timber. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren. David was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
David is survived by his wife, Vicki Addington Pickle; daughter, Lindsey Smith (Jimmy), Mt. Juliet, TN; sons, Kris Pickle (Zara), Tupelo and Zac Pickle, Columbus; sisters, Fay Luke (David), Olive Branch, TN and Gay Roberts, Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Wells Pickle, Finley Pickle, Knox Delk, Addison Duke, Pearson Duke and Madison DesMarais; great grandchild, Cayden DesMarais; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his father, Bud Pickle; mother and stepfather, Earnestine and Charlie Roberts; father and mother in law, Olen and Dorothy Addington.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro, Phillip Lindsey and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Parham, Van Pearson, Lloyd Pearson, Boyd Pearson, Sammy Lewis, Dennis Pickle, Frank Holman, Sammy Adkins, Jonathan Donovan, Devin George, Doug Cuthbert, Scott Riddle and Danny Parham. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Fretwell, Greg Chapman and Jeremy Flora.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5-7 PM.
