David Powell Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 7, 2025.
Wytopitlock – David 'Dave' Milan Powell, 52, passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2025. Dave was born in Sharon, CT on March 25, 1973, the son of Milan and Jolene (Russell) Powell.
Dave was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1990. Following high school, he attended EMVTI (Easten Maine Vocational Technical Institute) in Bangor, eventually enrolling at University of Southern Maine in their industrial arts program. While Dave was at USM, he was a fraternity brother at the Delta Chi Fraternity, forming friendships and a brotherhood that lasted until his passing. After college he worked at Old Town Canoe, manufacturing canoes and kayaks. Following his time at Old Town Canoe, he worked for Urban Garden Center, which specialized in hydroponic growing.
Dave was a wild man with a gentle soul who surely lived his short life to its fullest and by his rules. Dave loved his family and had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs and has been known to be called a dog whisperer. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend, was loyal to his fraternity brothers and always was up for an adventure of any kind.
He was an avid fisher and kayaker, enjoyed hunting, camping and four wheeling. Another hobby was exploring the state geocaching.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a very special uncle, Nelson 'Red' McCormack and his wife, Aunt 'Shay.' Dave is survived by his brother, Rory Wood and his wife Bea of Rutherfordton, NC and their daughters, Laurel and Emily; his sister, Tonya McLaughlin of Old Town and her children, Jesse, Cody and Samantha; his sister, Dawn Lott and husband, Stephen of Canton, NC and their children, Shane, Brandi and Ashley; his brother, Greg Powell and his wife Janet of Clearwater, FL and their children, Chad and Justin.
A celebration of life and burial will be held in the spring/summer of 2026 at Evergreen cemetery, Main St., Reed Plantation. A reception will follow at Wytopitlock Baptist Church.
