David Ray Preston February 21, 1958 – February 12, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Ray Preston. A devoted husband, father, and Papa. Dave's love and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara, whom he loved immensely, his daughter Ashley, and his son Christopher, along with Christopher’s wife, Amber. He was the proudest and most loving grandfather to Kyler, Ethan, Harper, Wynter, and Maverick, who will forever cherish his love and guidance. Dave is now reunited with his beloved grandchild, Cole, who preceded him in passing.
For 42 years, Dave dedicated himself to his work as a truck driver, first with Viking Freight and later with FedEx. His work ethic, reliability, and warm personality made a lasting impact on his colleagues and friends in the industry.
On Saturdays, Dave could always be found at the racetrack, a place that brought him immense joy. Whether at Mesa Marin, Famoso Drag Strip, or Kern County Raceway, he cherished the friendships, the thrill of the races, and the shared passion for the sport. In addition to his love for racing, Dave enjoyed attending the Golden Empire Mustangs for several years, where he formed lasting friendships with fellow car enthusiasts who shared his passion for classic cars and horsepower.
Dave cared deeply for everyone he encountered, always offering a helping hand, a listening ear, and a warm smile. His presence was one of kindness and generosity, leaving an unforgettable mark on the lives of so many. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Dave asked that a celebration of life be held on a day that allowed all of his friends and family to celebrate his life. The celebration of life will be held in honor of Dave on Saturday, March 1st, at 2:00 PM at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles St, Bakersfield, CA 93306. Friends and family are invited to come together to share memories, laughter, and love as we honor the incredible man he was.
A Note from the Family: We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Dave was a man who never met a stranger and left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. In his honor, we ask that you share a story, a laugh, and a cold drink in his memory. He wouldn’t want tears—he’d want to be remembered with joy, friendship, and the roar of an engine at the track.
