David Benjamin Rains, 69 of Protem, Missouri, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at his home.
His family is holding a service in his honor at Cantlon, Otterness, and Viets Funeral Home in Urbana, Missouri on Monday August 26, 2024, at 2pm with visitation 12p-2p followed by graveside services in Howard Chapel Cemetery in Urbana, Missouri.
David was born on January 24, 1955, in Sioux City, IA, the son of Georgie and Delia (Taskan) Rains. He married Victoria (Crooks) and to this union they had children Chistine, Clinton, and Angelia. He also later married and divorced Linda (Schutt) and Marilyn (Rackley).
He spent several years driving semi with his father and two brothers, and in construction building homes. In 2012 he started driving semi for Windtalkers Transportation, planning to retire in January. He found joy in his German Shepard Chris, hunting, fishing, woodworking, photography, and the open road. His love for long drives reflected his adventurous and free spirit.
Dave, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and a captivating personality. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Those who knew Dave will remember him for his endless stories and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift of never knowing a stranger, only a friend he hadn't met yet leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
His memory lives on through his two daughters Christine (Sonya) Stroman and Annie Rains, his mother Delia Bottjen, and sisters Georgetta Grimes, Cindy Korver, and Kelly Campbell. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren Kaitlynn (Andrew), Brett (JaMaine), Kortney, Blake, Orion, Dahlen, and Jayce. and 7 great grandchildren Alexis, Journee, Mavrick, Kinlee, Logan, Kaizlee and Kaia. Along with his loyal K-9 dog Chris.
He was predeceased by his father, Georgie, son Clinton, brothers Kenneth and Danny and best friend Larry Howard.
Although Dave's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, may his memory be a blessing, and carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, Urbana. Visitation will be held prior from 12-2 p.m. Following all services, David will be laid to rest at Howard Chapel Cemetery near Urbana, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home.
