David Rhodes - a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great friend - passed away, surrounded by his family on October 6th, 2023. He was born October 26th, 1944, in Pocatello, Idaho, and grew up in River Heights, Utah. David's life was marked by his unwavering faith, commitment to service, and love for his family.

While attending Arizona State University, David met Lucia Thomas, and they married on February 14th, 1970. On the 26th of August, 1977, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Washington, DC Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They shared 53 years of beautiful experiences together.

David was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the British South Mission, and later, he and Lucia served a service mission at the Institute at USU. He was a primary teacher, Scout Leader, Bishop, and High Councilor.

David was also dedicated to serving his country and community.  He earned his Wood Badge, demonstrating his commitment to the values of scouting. He served in the United States Army Reserve, was also an active HAM Radio operator, and volunteered with the Army MARS organization, contributing his skills to support military communications. Additionally, David served as a Major in the Civil Air Patrol. Service was the motto of David’s life.

Beyond his service, David was an accomplished impressionist painter known for his vibrant depictions of Southern Utah's breathtaking landscapes, which he sold in the Juniper Sky Gallery in the Kayenta Art Village near St. George, UT. His artistic talents brought joy and beauty to those privileged to view his work.

David dedicated his life as a testament to the values of faith, service, and charity. He strove always to be right with the Lord. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

David is survived by his wife Lucia; his two children and their spouses, Amy and Brandon Gillespie of Layton, Utah; and Sarah and Matthew Law of Holladay, Utah; and five grandchildren: Aiden, Morgan, and Thomas Gillespie, Toby and Mallory Law. He is also survived by siblings Jack Rhodes (Becky) of Provo, Utah; Peggy (Rod) Low of North Logan, Utah; Kitty (Mike) Dunn of Brigham City, Utah; and Liz (Reese) Merrill of Brush Prairie, Washington, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Wanda Rhodes.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 13, 2023, at White Pine Funeral Services, 753 S 100 E, Logan, Utah.  A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.  The interment will be at the Providence City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in his name be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or the charity of your choice.
