David William Rice, age 70, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on May 21, 2025.
He was born on August 25, 1954, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Richard Rice and Barbara (Shockney) Rice. On August 5, 1978, David married Karyl Way in Galesburg, Illinois.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Rice and Barbara (Shockney) Rice, and his sister in law Connie Rice.
He is survived by his sister Julia (Rice) Finnie Maumelle, AR and her husband Jack, and his brother John Rice of Carbondale, Colorado. He is also survived by his beloved wife Karyl (Way) Rice; his children Elizabeth (Rice) Loyd (Michael Loyd) and Erin Rice-Fields (Hazel Rice-Fields); and his granddaughter Sophia (Loyd) Payne (Jaeden Payne).
David was a dedicated Registered Nurse for many years, known for his compassion and care. He was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
David was full of life and never short on opinions. He loved reading atlases, watching action movies, and was a lifelong sports fan, always cheering the St. Louis Cardinals, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Green Bay Packers. Known for his booming laugh and larger-than-life personality, he greeted surprises with his signature phrase, "What in the world?!"
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Calvary Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with Reverend Gilbert officiating.
Graveside Services will be held at Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 12:00 pm with Reverend Michael Loyd officiating.
David will be laid to rest at Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church.
