David Rupert Obituary

Dave was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving our country as a Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Presidential Unit Citation for his valor.
He worked at the Erie Veteran's Center as a counselor for 31 years until his retirement in 2010. He was a member and past board member of the Fairview American Legion Post 742 where he also served as chaplain and was also a member of The Chapel of Four Chaplains. Dave also was a Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and member of the Disabled American Veterans. In addition, Dave earned martial arts black belts in Tae Kwan Do and Tang Soo Do.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a son in law, Arthur Covel Jr., and a brother-in-law, Mike Donofrio.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary L. (Baughman) Rupert; a daughter, Lorraina Covel; two sons, Adam Rupert, wife Anna, and Alex Rupert, fiancé Haley Erne; six grandchildren, Dominick Alberico, Kyla Covel, Jackson Covel, Aiden Rupert, Andrew Rupert, and Aaron Rupert; and four siblings, Linda O'Hara, husband Daniel, Thomas Rupert, wife Charlene, Walter Rupert and Karen Donofrio.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. and to attend a funeral mass on Friday at 10 a.m. Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th St. Burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in the cremation garden.

Dave and I shared a house at the "Funny Farm"while going to Edinboro..He tolerated my 3 pet alligators, but refused to sleep with any of them..See ya in a couple Dave

Dave and my brother initiated a co-worker friendship that grew throughout the years. I myself knew Dave, his dedicated work with veterans, sense of humor, exercise routine, etc. He will be sorely missed, but has a place in heaven.

He left his mark as a good and courageous man who was devoted to his family, a loyal friend and helped many people as a juvenile probation officer and veteran's counsellor. He will be sadly missed.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Dave and I attended Academy High we met again in a barbershop in Phu Bai , Vietnam in January 1967 serving in the same battalion but adjoining companies. I will remember Dave as friend who helped me though tough times and the experience we shared good and bad. Rest well you will be missed!
