David B. Schauer of Monticello, NY, a passionate chef and proud outdoorsman, passed away at home on July 31, 2025. He was 61 years old.

David was employed as a culinary supervisor at Legoland in Goshen, NY where he was admired for his creativity in the kitchen and his deep love for people and preparing meals that brought people together. Those who had the pleasure of tasting his food can attest that Dave didn't just cook-he created experiences.

Born on February 27, 1964, in Port Jervis, NY, he was the son of the late John Dewitt Schauer and Helen Veronica Witkowski (nee Brennan).

He spent his early years growing up between Port Jervis and Monticello, prior to moving to both communities that shaped him deeply. However, his heart was always drawn to the warmth and charm of Florida, where he held some of his fondest memories.

An avid hunter, David found peace and in the outdoors. Whether tracking deer through the woods or sharing stories about hunting, and nature was like a sanctuary to him. His respect for the land and its bounty reflected the same care and reverence he showed in the kitchen.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Ana Y. Schauer, her children his two stepsons: Josias and Samuel Marte his daughters; Eileen DeSimone (Brent) and Michelle Schauer, along with their mother, Cecilia Cumming (Gene), a son, Ryan Schauer, and his wife, Julie, brother John Schauer, niece Tanya Schauer and two nephews; Jason and Johnny Schauer

He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, located at 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's name may be made to the Humane Society of

Port Jervis/Deerpark at www.pjhumane.org, reflecting his soft spot for animals and his generous heart.
