David Warren Searles passed away on December 31, 2023 after a long illness. Born in 1949, to Norman Roy Searles and Barbara F. Gauthier Searles, Dave grew up in Eliot and York, Maine.
Dave was drawn to the water at an early age, bought his own boat and worked as a lobsterman for several years. Continuing his work on the water, he joined the US Coast Guard in 1969 and served for 4 years. After his service, he met Margaret "Chicky" Dowling and moved to the Boston area where he worked as an HVAC Technician at The Prudential Building. He then worked for Harvard University in their Facilities Maintenance Division for more than 25 years until his retirement.
He loved his work, but his primary focus was on providing for his family. He always dropped what he was doing to help them or to join in enjoying a football game or another activity.
In his spare time, Dave was a "tinkerer." He loved the challenge of fixing broken mechanical objects and building models. He helped others with projects and enjoyed teaching them in his hobby.
David showed his love through his actions rather than with words. He showed his family that he was dedicated to help them and provide for them in whatever they needed. They feel honored and privileged to have had a wonderful, humble father and husband. Dave will be missed dearly for the rest of his family's days.
Dave was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret "Chicky" (Dowling) Searles and her sister, Rosemary McCarthy. He is survived by his loyal son, Brian Searles of Marshfield. He also leaves his brother Keith Searles of Eliot, his sister Anita Crosby of Eliot and Pamela Theobald of Lincoln, John and Ellen Dowling of Dennis, Michael McCarthy, Sr., of Duxbury, Ralph and Michelle Dowling (BFD) of Stoneham, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 @ 12:30 p,m. in the Chapel at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
