Mr. David T. 'Duffy' Sharp, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, February12, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital. He was 66. David was born on October 16, 1944 in Worcester son of Evelyn (Dunn) Sharp and the late Willard Sharp. A lifelong Shrewsbury resident he graduated from Shrewsbury High School, class of 1962. He then enlisted with United States Marine Corps and served with distinction as a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. 'Duffy', as he was known, worked for the Town of Shrewsbury as a firefighter and special town police officer for many years before retiring. He later worked for various local restaurants and Mass Transport. An avid outdoorsman, Duffy especially loved hunting with his beloved dogs. He also enjoyed travelling. His only son, David A. Sharp, of Kingsbridge Devon, UK died June 27, 2009. Duffy leaves his granddaughter, Daisy B. Sharp and his daughter-in-law, Phoebe A. (Evans) Sharp, both of Loddiswell Devon, United Kingdom; his mother, Evelyn (Dunn) Sharp of Shrewsbury; his brothers, John S. 'Jack' Sharp and his wife, Joann, of Northborough and Peter Sharp of Florida; nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Duffy's life by gathering for a calling hour at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Tuesday, February 22nd from 9:30 - 11:00AM followed by his funeral service being celebrated at 11AM. Interment with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Friends who wish to honor Duffy's memory may contribute to Shrewsbury Firefighter's Relief Association, P.O. Box 61, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
