Lucas Funeral Home - HurstDavid Michael Sivernell, 78, passed away February 21, 2026, while being cared for at the Dallas VA Hospital.
Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a devoted member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), where he valued fellowship and community.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ann “Sue” Sivernell, Father Richard Bernard Sivernell and brother Richard Sivernell.
Dave is survived by his children, Richard Maxwell Tovar (JoAnn) and Tonya Devore (Brandon), grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Taylor Smith, and Kate Tovar. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald L. Sivernell (Nelda), nephews, Ridgeway Sivernell (Melissa), J.R. Sivernell (Tesa), and niece Jennifer Sivernell Kasowicz (Ken) as well as great nephews and nieces.
Dave shared many cherished years with his longtime best friend, Patty Whitehead. He also leaves behind Patty’s children, Melanie Campbell (Dale) and David Whitehead (Ashlee), as well as her grandchildren, Kyla (Zack), Katelyn, Colten, Kase, and Lexi, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Dave will be remembered for his quick wit, his funny jokes, and his ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a true fighter during his ten-year health battle with cancer, a broken neck, and a crushed spinal cord. Even when told he might never walk again, Dave fought courageously and worked tirelessly to prove otherwise.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of the Hospice Care Center at the Dallas VA Hospital for their compassion and dedicated care.
Dave’s strength, determination, and love of life will never be forgotten.
