David Slater Obituary
DOB: 2/6/59 DOD: 12/11/2025 AGE: 66 years old
After an 11 month brave battle with pancreatic cancer, David passed at his residence on 12/11/25. A loved son, brother & uncle, he is preceded in death by Father, Jack Slater and Mother, Hermine (Pommer) Slater. He is survived by his two sisters, Linda (Jim) Fiorillo of Port Murray, NJ and Susan (Jeff) Sewell of Columbus, OH. He leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Jessica Fiorillo, Jamie Fiorillo, Tim (Sara) Fiorillo, Hannah Sewell & Hailey Sewell and dear cousin, Shannon (Troy) Slater. He will be missed by many. A few of those special to him were Sharron "Mamaw" Sewell, Brian (Babe) Sewell, Gregg Sewell, Tim Sewell, Jeffrey Kefauver, Brandon McClung & Walter Robinson.
David was a 1977 grad of Hamilton Township High School and received his Associates Degree in Automotive Technology in 1979 from Columbus State Community College, or CTI as we remember it. This degree led him to a full-time job in the Automotive Department where he worked for 46 years and was due to retire on 1/1/2026. David had a love of conversation about cars, motorcycles and pretty much anything with a motor. He enjoyed our yearly trips to Keuka Lake in upstate New York where many memories were made.
Visitation with family and friends at Myers-Woodyard Funeral Home, 587 Main Street, Groveport, Ohio will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 5–7 p.m. During this time, special words from family will be shared.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David's memory to the Columbus State Community College Foundation, Auto Support Funds to be used on a new building to house the future of the CSCC Automotive Department that David spoke about often. Donation envelopes will be available on the night of his service.
