David A. Smozanek, of New Providence, NJ passed away at the age of 86 on Monday, April 1, 2024 at home with family and Hospice care.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ on Wednesday, April 3rd from 3–7 PM. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 4th at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 111 South Street, New Providence, NJ. Friends touched by Dave's life are welcomed to attend. Entombment with friends and family to follow at St. Teresa's Mausoleum, Passaic Avenue, Summit, NJ.
Dave was born in 1937 in Summit, NJ to Gladys (nee Shepardson) and John Smozanek and was raised in Madison, NJ. He served his country proudly in the United States Marines afterwards serving in other uniformed roles for our local community, throughout his life.
Dave began his career as a fireman for the city of Summit in 1961. An entrepreneur, he was also the owner/operator of his own moving company, Allen Services. After his retirement from the fire department in 1988, Dave joined the Livingston mall's security team for 14 years, leaving as Director of Security. Dave then was a Crossing Guard for the township of New Providence, in various posts throughout the town, for 13 years. Dave worked from the age of 13, and finally retired at 83 years old, enjoying trips to Mt. Airy and Wind Creek Casinos and time with friends and family.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Adrienne; his step-daughters Donna Spangler (husband Michael) and Debra MacKrell (fiancé Edward Malnak); his sister Ruthann Hladik (Matthew); and his grandchildren Kate and Matthew and his niece Laura (Hladik) Hoffman and nephew Stephan Hladik. He was predeceased by his parents.
