David Roy Sneed, born on December 20, 1945 and a lifetime resident of Decatur, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025.
An avid sports fan, David passionately cheered for the Tennessee Vols, the Atlanta Braves, and his beloved Meigs County Tigers. He retired from Astec Industries and thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, traveling throughout his later years and having the best mowed lawn in Meigs County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Lena Sneed; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sue Sneed; his brothers-in-law, Hubert Walden and R.E. Gennoe; and nephew, Adam Gennoe.
David was a dedicated husband to Donna Stokes Sneed for 58 wonderful years. He was a loving father to his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Jan Sneed of Decatur, and his daughter and son-in-law, Tabitha and Chris Lowe of Athens. His legacy continues through his four cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Gabe and Sarah Sneed, Madison Lowe, Kaitlyn and Mack Bailey, and MaKayla and Trinity Richesin. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Aliyah Sneed, Wesley Sneed, and Noah Bailey. David also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Champ.
David is survived by his brother, Donnie Sneed; his sisters and their husbands, Sue Gennoe, Maudell Walden, and Faye and Rev. Jimmy Dunn; and sister-in-law, Lou York. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved church family at Clear Springs Baptist Church. David held a special place in his heart for his nephew, Corey Stokes, and his family: Kristen, Maddox, Malia, and Maverick.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Caris Healthcare for their unwavering support throughout the last several weeks.
David will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
