David P. Spoerl, 95, of Sherrill passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at Bethany Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, June 29 at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 30 at Sherrill United Church of Christ followed by interment in the church cemetery where the Striking of the Four Fives ceremony will be conducted by the Sherrill Fire Department.
David was born July 21, 1929 in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Paul and Elsie (Knoernschild) Spoerl.
He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1946.
On August 1, 1950, he married Julia Leslein at Sherrill United Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2011.
David owned and operated Spoerl Chevrolet in Sherrill for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He grew up working in the family business all his life, passing it on to the next generation. He was a volunteer with the Sherrill Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years.
David was a lifelong member of Sherrill United Church of Christ.
He is survived by four children, John (Shirley) Spoerl of Sherrill, Joann (Don) Sams of McKinney, TX, Jane (Mel) Masters of Mineral Point, WI, and June Foster of Salt Lake City, UT; 12 grandchidren; 14 great-grandchildren with one due soon and a son in law Doug Miller of Urbandale, IA
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diann Miller; a son in law, Larry Foster and a sister, Ruth Hale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sherrill United Church of Christ or the Sherrill Volunteer Fire Department.
