David Steinmetz, a veteran of the Vietnam War, peacefully passed away at his home on February 2nd, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Cresco, Iowa, David relocated to Tallahassee with his family in 1971. He thrived working with his hands, channeling his creativity into outdoor landscapes. In addition to his passion for gardening, David had a successful career as a professional carpet cleaner. During this time, he not only honed his skills in cleaning but also served as a mentor, fostering apprentices in mold remediation.
David leaves behind a lasting legacy characterized by a tireless work ethic and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures-values he instilled in his beloved children. Among his most cherished memories are the countless rounds of golf shared with his daughter, Meredith, and the memorable fishing expeditions he embarked on with his son, Josh, and the cherished moments of sibling banter between the two. He took great pride in his children's accomplishments, eagerly sharing their successes with anyone willing to listen, and expressing his profound admiration for the loving, humorous, hardworking, and passionately dedicated adults they had become.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Harold Steinmetz, as well as his sisters, Karla Salisbury and Carol Steinmetz. David is survived by his loving children, Joshua Steinmetz (Jessica) of Tallahassee and Meredith White (Ray) of Jacksonville, along with his sister, Christine Willis (Robert) of Atlantic Beach. David's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Monday, February 26, at 1pm. Todd Wahlquist is assisting the family with their arrangements (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com)
