David Stets, 61, of Binghamton, NY, passed away very peacefully October 21, 2025, embraced by a circle of love from his family and friends after his very courageous fight against cancer. Born in Scranton, PA, he is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Marie Stets, grandparents William and Catherine Stets, grandparents Anthony and Mary Johns, his brother-in-law Mario Pereira. He is survived by his brother and sisters, William (Laurie); Lisa Marris (Mark); Diane Pereira; Krista Turner (Kyle) and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. David was in the last graduating class from Binghamton North High School in 1982. He was a patriot who served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Valdez as a sonar technician during the contentious Cold War period which led to the downfall and defeat of Communism in Europe. He always spoke highly about his shipmates aboard the USS Valdez. David was extremely talented in many areas. He was an expert at repairing CNC Milling Machines and very hands-on with renovations which he performed for his family and friends at their homes. He was an excellent artist who also drew many amazing pieces of artwork. David was also an avid die-hard New York Giants fan. The family would like to extend their extreme appreciation for the outstanding care David received at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida by surgeon Dr Sean Dineen; David's Primary Care Dr Steve Christesen and Oncology Dr Ivor Percent of Port Charlotte Florida. The outstanding medical staff at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall hospital in Newburgh, New York. The family would also like to recognize the outstanding care David received from UHS Wilson hospital in Johnson City, New York, including Primary Care Dr Raheel Chaudhry, and Nurse Practitioner Rebekah Dickman and her entire Palliative Care team. Finally, to family friend Kristine Burke who helped David during this challenging time.
A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held 3:00 pm Saturday Oct. 25 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The family requests memorial donations to the UHS Foundation (NYUHS.org). Sign his guestbook at www.HEFUNERALHOME.com
