David Odell Stewart Jr., age 45, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. Born on March 7, 1980, in Biloxi, Mississippi, David lived a full and meaningful life, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. David was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Vonda Estelle Gatewood, and his paternal grandparents, Odell and Dolores Stewart. He is survived by his devoted parents, David and Vicky Stewart; his loving wife, Lindsey Stewart; and his six children: DJ, Alyssa, Bradley, Cayden, Carter, and Cooper, who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his sister, Tosha Stewart, and her husband, Scott; nephews Landon and Seth; his sister, Jill Tymowczak;as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply. David dedicated his professional life to public service, working for Okaloosa County and, most recently, for the City of Fort Walton Beach, where he found purpose and camaraderie among his co-workers, whom he greatly admired and appreciated.

A man of many passions, David loved casting a line while fishing, building with his hands through woodworking, enjoying the thrill of a trip to the casino, and listening to all types of music. He was also a loyal fan of Florida State football, never missing a chance to cheer on the Seminoles.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David's memory to Cancer Freeze (PO Box 92, Florala, AL 36442). David was honored as a recipient of the 2025 Cancer Freeze, a cause that became very close to his heart. The support and love from this community were a source of strength during his cancer journey.

David will be remembered for his kindness, his strength, and the way he brought laughter and love into the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of David's life will be held on Monday, July 7th, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home in Crestview, Florida. The family will receive visitors beginning at 4:00 PM, with the service to follow at 5:00 PM.

David was such a mess (and by that I mean the brightest of lights) in the chemo room. His quick wit and laughter brought a beacon of joy into a room that can otherwise be very scary for the people that come in. He was a true fighter. He´d always mention how he had to keep fighting for his family, they were his sole purpose despite how he felt. The world lost a giant today that can´t be replaced. Give `em hell, big guy. Until next time, your Sunshine.
