David Lee Stewart passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, just three days away from celebrating his seventy-third wedding anniversary to his beloved wife, Nancy “Jean” Overstreet Stewart. David was also just two weeks short from celebrating his ninety-fourth birthday, when he was called by God to his greatest celebration of all-Graduation, to his heavenly home! He is now rejoicing in the presence of his blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and experiencing a wonderful family reunion.

David was born at home in Johnson County, Georgia, on October 25, 1931, to the late Willie “Brinson” Stewart and Aline Rebecca Grice Stewart. As a student at Commercial High School in Savannah, Georgia, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves. In 1950, he then joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was an excellent marksman and Air Craft Mechanic. During the Vietnam War, he served as a crew chief, stationed in Thailand. In 1970, after retiring from the Air Force, he earned a degree in automobile mechanics from Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Many friends, neighbors, family and stranded fellow travelers were often blessed by his mechanical abilities.

David was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and served with the Children’s Bus Ministry. He enjoyed both the fellowship and challenge of serving on the team, which kept the large fleet of buses running to safely transport children to Sunday School and church. David had a second career as a civil servant on Robins Air Force Base for approximately twenty years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Brinson Stewart; brother, Willie Edsel Stewart; sisters, Carolyn Frink Maxwell and Betty Stewart Veal.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy “Jean” Overstreet Stewart; daughters, Ruth Marie Stewart Thomas (Robert Thomas) and Mary Stewart Abbott (L. Kimball Abbott, Jr.); grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Abbott, Thomas Abbott, William Abbott, Paul Abbott, and Jeremy Brinson Stewart (Sarah Stewart); best project buddy, Roy Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews.

David’s life of service served as an excellent example for his children and grandchildren. Psalm 37:25 says it best: I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

God always met his needs and watched over him. David will be greatly missed by all who have known him and will forever be held close to our hearts until we meet again.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, David will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of David Stewart to the Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund at 901 Elberta Road, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
