David L. Stoner, Sr., 74, of Sarona, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, MN. He was born February 17, 1948, in Spooner, WI, to Dave and Lucille (Cook) Stoner, was raised in Spooner and attended Spooner High School, class of 1966. He joined the Operating Engineers, Local 139, and operated heavy equipment for many different companies, retiring in 2004. He was married in Shell Lake, WI, on July 14, 1981, to Kelly Eckstrom, and they raised two sons.
He was a gifted mechanic and spent countless hours rebuilding motors and participating in truck pulls. Dave was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding ATV, camping, cruising with Kelly on their trike. He was very social, had a great sense of humor and a laugh no one could forget.
He leaves many great memories with his loving wife of 41 years, Kelly; children: David, Jr. and Matthew of Sarona; 9 grandchildren: Kailey, Nathan, Colten, Aidan, Daphni, Dalilah, Carmen, Barretta and Eli; siblings: Doralee (Don) Roberts of Spooner, Michael (Kodie) Stoner of Spooner, Mag (Dan) Lee of Spooner, Bob Stoner of Sarona, Steven (Lindsey) Stoner of Minong and David (Heather) Westphal of Minong; brother-in-law, Dan Thompson of Sarona and sister-in-law, Lee Stoner of Spooner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lenora Fox and Jayne Thompson, brothers Gary "Swede" and Richard.
There will be a gathering to honor David beginning at 4PM, including a time of reflection at 5:00 PM, all on Saturday, July 23, at Getaway Bar and Grill with Rob Larson officiating. After events at the bar, there will be a bonfire at Kelly's Kamp for those who wish to attend.
