David Summers, age 90, of
Elbert, CO, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on January 18, 2026. David was born on January 5, 1936, in
Bennett, CO. David grew up on a farm in
Byers, CO, with his parents and nine siblings. He became an expert in day to day farm life. Even though David eventually left the farm, he never lost his love of working outdoors and using his hands.
David moved to Denver where he began working at Colorado Builders Supply Company. He began attending Calvary Temple, and in February, 1959, he met the love of his life, Sharon Laughlin, daughter of Gail and Ida (Dotts) Laughlin. They spent nearly every day together up to their wedding on September 27, 1959. David served as an usher and was eventually selected as a junior board member at Calvary Temple. While attending engineering school, David began working for Denver Equipment Company. He eventually transferred to the Colorado Springs office, where he worked in engineering and international marketing until his retirement in 1999. David worked for the same company for 39 years.
David and Sharon were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Michelle and Diane. The family enjoyed many vacations and camping trips together. David and Sharon were avid square dancers for many years; they formed many lasting friendships through this activity. Church was always a central priority in their lives.
David and Sharon moved to the Black Forest in 1997. David once again was able to experience his love of being outdoors and working with his hands. They enjoyed watching the wildlife and hummingbirds, while taking their many coffee breaks. David helped to build his shop on their five acres, where he spent many enjoyable days working on various projects. His favorite project was restoring a 1947 Case tractor. His father had owned the same tractor. David enjoyed many years of driving his tractor in the Black Forest Parade, displaying it at national tractor shows, and giving hayrides to children, young and old, at church events.
David was a lifelong church attender. He put Christ first in all that he did. David loved the Lord deeply and this was evident in the way he lived his life each day. David and Sharon began attending Woodmen Valley Chapel in 1983. He served there as an usher for 35 years.
David will be greatly missed by so many. He possessed a servant's heart; he was the first to lend a hand to someone in need. David's quiet, calm demeanor instantly put others at ease. He was a humble man of his word. David lived an authentic life that was pleasing to God. We take comfort in knowing that he is rejoicing in heaven.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Otis and Amy Ione (McAllister)Summers; brothers Donald and Gerald (Gene) Summers; sisters Margaret Shuler, Lyla (Maxine) Gamble, Betty Hamilton, JoAnne Beebe, and Elizabeth (Annalee) Cogar.
David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sharon; his daughters, Michelle (Larry) Boyd and Diane Summers; grandchildren Corey (Stephenie) Dyben, Chelsey (Drue) Summers, Crystal (Nicholas) Flores, Kayla (Justin) Boyd; great-grandchildren Finley and Maddox Dyben, and Riley and Cameron Beasley; brother, George Summers and sister, Paula Baer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
