David Swosinski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes - Montrose Chapel on Jan. 19, 2026.
David passed away at age 78 on January 18, 2026, with his daughter at his side in her home. Per David's wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 11AM until 3PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Funeral service to follow at 3PM.

David was born 1947 to Edward and Dolores (Gilroy) Swosinski, the second of five children. David grew up in Mt. Morris Township graduating from Hamady High School, class of 1966. He was drafted to the US Army serving in Korea, discharged as a sergeant in 1973. David was a proud Lieutenant and retiree of the Genesee County Sheriff Dept serving in the marine division, the jail, and in traffic. He met his future bride, Carolyn VandeBunt, on a blind date set up by friends. They married in November 1974. They were married 45 years until Carolyn's passing in April 2020. They built a house in Montrose Township and raised their children Matt and Becky there. To improve the education of his children, and the students of Montrose Community Schools, he ran for the Board of Education and was a proud member for 20 years serving as trustee and president. David was a gifted woodworker, avid golfer, lover of TV and movies and a die-hard Michigan fan.

David Casemer Swosinski is survived by his children Matthew of Detroit, and Becky (Lisa) Swosinski of Montrose; his grandson, Tyler (Cailley Boss) Swosinski of Zeeland; sisters, Nancy Bates and Marsha Kilbourne of Gladwin; sister-in-law Susan Swosinski of Lapeer; brothers-in-law Jim Kelly of Saginaw and Don McIlmurray of Montrose; friends Joe & Wyoma Lamson, John & Kim Poisson; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Carolyn of 45 years; his brothers Stanley and Gary, his parents, Edward and Dolores and in-laws Neal and Pauline VandeBunt; brother-in-law, Roger Bates; sisters-in-law Susan Kelly, and Cathryn McIlmurray; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Special thanks to his private duty nurse Brenda Holmes, and The Care Team Hospice, and his nurses Jamie, Trevor, and Stephanie. We appreciate everything you did.

Lovingly written by David's Family.

My wife Kathryn and I bowled on the same league as David and Carolyn for years. Such wonderful people.
Dave and I would run into one another from time to time and it was like talking to family.
He will be missed but not forgotten.
Sincerest condolences to Becky and Matt.
