David Wayne Thompson 81, of Beech Grove, IN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, May 6, 2023, with family by his side. David was born on March 22, 1942, in Indianapolis to the late Raymond and Frieda Thompson.
David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Theresa Thompson, his sisters Shirley Raymond, Patricia Knight, Maureen (Roger) Concepcion, his children Eleica (Carl) Drake, Theresa (Scott) Carnagua, David (Gloria) Thompson, and Tammy Thompson; son-in-law, James Davis: 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers Ray and John Thompson, his two daughters Felecia Dobbs and her husband Jim Dobbs and Jami Davis: his granddaughter Danielle Dobbs, and his great-grandson Grayson Thompson.
David began working at the Chrysler Electrical Plant in 1965 until it closed. He then transferred to the Chrysler Foundry in Indianapolis until he retired in 2001. David served in the United States Army for two years. He was a selfless and hardworking man who would do anything for anyone. He sacrificed to provide for his family and to ensure his children received a good education. He loved being down at the lake with his family and with a fishing pole in his hand. Being outside in the heat was one of his favorite things as well as going to Ponderosa for his senior discount.
A viewing will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 E Main St. Greenwood, IN, 46143 on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
On Saturday, May 13, there will be a viewing from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with the funeral starting at 12:00 PM.
Pastor Richard Jones will officiate. Following the service there will be a funeral procession to Washington Park East Cemetery where David will be laid to rest.
