David Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home - Davison on Jan. 29, 2026.
THOMPSON, David – of Burton, age 61, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Hurley Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM on February 3, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Grace Musolf, CO officiating. Interment will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12 noon on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, treat yourself to a coney, one of Dave's favorites, in his memory.

Dave was born in Flint, Michigan, on March 2, 1964, the beloved son of the late Kenneth J. Thompson and Ivola M. (Press) Hopp. He graduated from Mott Adult High School in 1987 and later moved to Dayton, Ohio, with his mother and stepfather, Daniel. While there, he worked for a time at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In the early 2000s, Dave returned to Michigan and settled in Burton, eventually making his home in Davison. In 2019, he moved to Lockwood, where he proudly had a place of his own. Known for his friendly spirit, Dave was truly a people person who never met a stranger and loved striking up conversations with anyone he met. His warmth and charm were evident when he was voted Prom King at his apartment complex. Dave enjoyed attending Flint Firebirds hockey games and especially cherished spending time Up North with his family at Crystal Lake. He will be remembered for his kind heart, outgoing nature, and the joy he brought to those around him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ruth, Janice, and Dee, David's "sister wives," for their friendship, love and support.

Dave is survived by his loving siblings, Kenneth (Lynn McClelland) Thompson and Lori (Kevin Thibeault) Thompson; nieces and nephews: Dezirae (Joe) McCartney, Kimberly Thompson, Daniel (Krissy) Thompson, and Zachary (Caitlin) Rose; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth J. Thompson; mother, Ivola M. Hopp; stepfather, Daniel Hopp; grandmother, Thelma Press; and sister-in-law, Carol Thompson.
