David Tien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home on Mar. 27, 2024.
David Pei-Chi Tien, 101, of Princeton, NJ, passed away after a fall on his favorite walking trail in Princeton, NJ on March 25, 2024.
David is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law: Ann Tien and Decai Sun of Los Altos, California; Susan Tien of Pennington, New Jersey. David also leaves behind four grandchildren: Kevin, Jacqueline, Amanda, and Katherine.
Born in Tsingtao, China in 1923, David's parents sent him on a mission to Shanghai to look for his younger brother during the Chinese communist and nationalist conflict. At the young age of 19, David could not return to his hometown and finally a friend got him a seat on a boat to Taiwan and little did he know that he would be forever separated from his parents in China
With talents in artistic expression, David eventually established himself as a successful commercial graphics and printing designer with an office in Taipei, Taiwan. He was active in local Taipei Lion's Club chapter and a member of Chinese Art Signature Stamp Society. He designed and built his dream home where his young family lived before immigrating to the States. Yearning to reunite with his parents in China, David decided to give up his successful business in Taiwan to come to America for a different American Dream: To establish direct communications with his parents and younger brothers. As a first-generation immigrant, David worked hard to re-build his career in the US as a commercial interior designer. In retirement, David enjoyed his nature walk outdoors, swimming in the gym, listening to classical music, watching beautiful art works and photographs, taking care of his collection of plants.
David's life will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 30 at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton, NJ 08542. Burial service will be held privately for the immediate families in the Princeton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Audubon Society https://www.audubon.org.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
