He was born May 23, 1937, in Wheatland, PA, the son of Herbert E. Tulip and Elizabeth Gancsos Tulip. He was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Tulip and Joyce McManis. He is survived by his wife, Gloria B. Tulip and aunt, Pearl Tulip Martin.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Thomas Tulip and survived by their daughter Tauvas Johnson, (Michael) and grandchildren Brandon, Shelby and James; son Joshua Tulip, (Hillarey) and grandchildren Justin and Madison.

David is also survived by two step-children, Lee Linton (Carla) and Karen Ford (Dennis) and step-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Athena Ford; and several nieces and nephews.
