Charles Tulip III

Charles (Charlie) Tulip III, 64, of Vienna, Virginia, passed away October 8th, 2024, with family by his side. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Carole (Trewern) and Charles Tulip Jr. He graduated from Woodbridge High School where he lettered in wrestling. Both Carole and Charles Tulip Jr. were very involved with the Boy Scouts of America throughout Charlie's childhood. They spent summer vacations visiting and volunteering at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and Charlie even worked at a Boy Scout camp for the summer on Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California. His parents guided both Charlie and his brother, Chris, to become Eagle Scouts. After high school, Charlie went on to gain a bachelor's degree from Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach. He then started his career at MetLife in Michigan, where he met his future wife and their daughter, Emma, was born.
Charlie married Laura Talt and raised two wonderful children, Emma and Charles. They moved together as a family from Michigan to California, where Charles was born, and then to New York. Charlie loved boating and spent many days and weekends with his family in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Many of his favorite destinations included traveling to Dana Point in California, taking night cruises around Seaford Harbor in New York, and navigating the locks through the Erie Canal.
After moving to Virginia, Charlie worked as a salesperson for Macy's in men's suits in the second half of his career and was named top salesman many times over. He truly enjoyed working with his customers and relished the task of finding them the right size, even if it meant calling other stores and tracking it down for them. His repeat customers spanned from senators to ambassadors and everyone in between. Charlie was known for his friendly personality and "dad jokes" which caused many repeat customers to seek him out. He was surrounded by a great team of coworkers and community at Macy's.
He had a lifelong passion for woodworking. His projects included furniture, birdhouses, holiday decorations, puzzles, cutting boards and much, much more. Charlie appreciated a hearty meal of liver and onions, split pea with ham soup, and a root beer float. The other time he had available was spent gardening and taking care of his children over the years; coaching their sports teams, making sure their chores were done, helping to file their taxes, and teaching them lessons they would only fully realize as adults. He also loved his new role as grandpa to Wesley and drove to Richmond as often as he could to see him.
Remaining to cherish Charlie's memory are wife, Laura Talt; children, Emma Tulip (Brett Amione) and Charles T. Tulip as well as grandson Wesley Amione; sister, Cathy Pritchard (Russ); brother, Chris Tulip; mother, Carole Tulip; and nephew, Craig Pritchard (Erinn). He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Tulip Jr. Memorial donations in Charlie's memory may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America: National High Adventure Scholarship Fund.
