David Andrew Vedova passed away at home on August 14, 2025. A long time employee of Fairfax County Public Schools, David Andrew had a passion for helping special needs children and will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. David Andrew was born and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he and his family attended Ridgewood Friends Meeting. He graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1985 and went on to attend Earlham College, in Richmond, Indiana, where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Known for his jolly and infectious positive attitude, David Andrew always thought of helping others above all else. David Andrew had a natural ability to remember everyone's name and make you feel like an old friend, even if you had only met once before. His fun-loving spirit shone through in every aspect of his life. Throughout his two sons' elementary school years, he enjoyed countless hours coaching their little league baseball teams and helping out with their cub scout pack activities. This led to his work with the Fairfax County Public School system, where, initially as a volunteer, his unique, but effective teaching style was discovered. Soon thereafter he joined Buzz Aldrin Elementary School, where he embarked on a career as a special needs teaching assistant. In the school community he was known as "Mr. Dave," and around 2007 he was given a lifetime achievement award for his work with special needs children and volunteer activities by a local Fairfax County chapter of a national association recognizing volunteer and community service. David Andrew loved nothing more than spending time with his extended family through get-togethers and beach vacations, where he was known as the "fun uncle." David Andrew also had a life-long love of baseball and the New York Yankees, as well as the New York Giants, and rock-and-roll music. David Andrew met his loving wife, Annapurna Das, through his work with special needs children, and the two shared their mutual passion for helping special needs kids. David Andrew was a member of Herndon Friends Meeting. He is survived by his loving wife Annapurna, stepdaughter Priyadarshini Das and step son-in-law Alan Malamud, stepdaughter Shivani Das, son Daniel Vedova and daughter-in-law Madison Stulir Vedova, son Patrick Vedova, daughter-in-law Hannah Bach Vedova, and granddaughter Catherine Silva Vedova, mother Alice Vedova, brother Charles ("Chuck"/"CG") Vedova, brother Peter Vedova, sister-in-law Katherine Vedova, nephew Jakob Vedova, and niece Jersey Vedova, as well as many other relatives in his extended family. Services for David Andrew will take place at 5pm on August 20, 2025, at Herndon Friends Meeting, 660 Spring St., Herndon, VA 20170. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Breakthrough T1D (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Foundation).
