David Walker Jr. was born on November 23, 1933, to the late David Walker Sr and Louise Burney Walker in Hartford, Alabama.
He graduated from Hartford High School in 1953 and went on to attend Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. He joined the United States Army in 1954 and proudly served for 20 years, to include fighting in the Vietnam War. He retired honorably as a Staff Sergeant in 1974. He was exceptionally proud of leading the Color Guard for his Battalion. They had the honor of performing for Queen Elizabeth during her first visit to Williamsburg, Virginia. She was so impressed with their performance that she made a special request to have them perform on her next visit. He was a member of Providence Way Lodge #229 PHA and actively served as a Past Potentate and a member of Zem Temple Lodge #122 until his health began to decline.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Roberts Walker; son Robert David Walker; daughter Debra "Debbie" Walker Baldwin; and sisters, Myra Walker Jones and Unita Miley Jordan.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a stepdaughter Gayle Wright of Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Shannon Vaughan (Chris) and Kenya Wright, all of Wake Forest, NC; David Wright of Charlotte, NC, and Tanisha and Eddie "Jr" Baldwin; nieces, Jacquelyn Clay (John) of Prattville, Alabama, Edna Golson of Hartford, Alabama, and Tiffany Jordan (Leon) Jones of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; nephew David Johns of Cincinnati, OH; a devoted friend Vincent Russell of Williamsburg, VA; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment with Full Military Honors to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Walker may be viewed on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
