David Peter "Pete" Walker, 75 of Sunbury, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville.
Born February 9, 1950, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the only son of the late Charles Santford & Virginia Mae (Prince) Walker. Pete graduated from Adena High School in Frankfort, Ohio. Pete lived in the Massieville area until the age of fourteen when he moved to Frankfort to live on a Dairy Farm with his grandmother to work with his uncles. He and Jennifer Martin started dating near the end of their senior year in 1968.
Pete received his draft notice for the Army in the summer of 1969. With his involvement in the Vietnam War looming, he married Jennifer on July 25th, 1969, in Chillicothe, Ohio. Ten days later, Pete left for his tour of duty. He was honorably discharged July 29, 1971.
Upon returning home, Pete worked on the Prince family dairy farm in Ross County, for thirteen years. In 1984 he decided to further his education and attained a degree in Electro-mechanical Engineering from Shawnee State. Following graduation, he worked eight years for Chillicothe Fire and Security. He owned his own home maintenance/security company for three years. Additionally, he worked in maintenance for YSK for two years. He then gained employment with Kenworth Truck Company in the late 1990s. When economic downturns resulted in layoffs, he found employment again in maintenance at YUSA in Washington Courthouse. He was later rehired by Kenworth where he worked in Assembly II and Cab Trim until he retired in 2014.
Pete was a man that put his mind to things and finished them. He built the family's home in Frankfort in 1974, and twenty-five years later completely remodeled that home. When they moved to their retirement home in Delaware County, Pete completed several improvement and renovation projects and over saw a major renovation of that home.
Pete is survived by his loving wife Jennifer of 56 years; sons Sam (Elise) Walker, Frank (Evelyn Keener) Walker, John Walker; grandchildren Alexia & Ford Walker (who are cousins); sisters Barbara Dobbins, Martha Walker and Elizabeth Riggin; brothers-in-law Michael (Mary) Martin and Joe (Vanessa) Martin; sisters-in-law Gail Freeman and Brenda Martin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Deborah (Robert) Teilhet; brothers-in-law William Dobbins, Steve Riggin, John Martin and Dana Martin; sisters-in-law Janice Arthurs and Sara Martin.
Pete enjoyed the simple things in life, like following Cincinnati Reds Baseball and Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball. Pete and Jennifer enjoyed boating and water skiing frequently at Deer Creek and Paint Creek Lakes. The family enjoyed taking vacations every year, specifically to places on or near water. They enjoyed such places as Lake Cumberland, Oxnard Beach, the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, the Florida Keys, Put-In-Bay, Michigan's Torch Lake, Costa Rica, Hawaii and the Bahamas. He also enjoyed visiting numerous National Parks, Alaska, Great Britain, Ireland, and Canada by-rail. Family and grandkids meant everything to Pete. He was a quiet man but when he had something to say, it was worth the wait. He will be remembered as a selfless, humble, dependable, loving, funny, and witty husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Pete and Jennifer regularly attended Freedom Church in Sunbury where Pete took on the responsibility of mowing the lawn, keeping the shrubs maintained and the weeds at bay.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 9:30am until 11am at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel, 637 State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Pastor Zach Carpenter will officiate a memorial service at 11am. Following the service, the family invites you to join them at Freedom Church in Sunbury, Ohio to share a meal and memories.
Pete chose to be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered at a later date.
Your presence, support, and prayers are most important to the family. Traditional items such as flowers, food, and other tributes are best sent to those in need. Pete believed his sons benefited greatly from their time in church youth group. For that reason, if you wish to make a donation in Pete's memory, please make it to Freedom Church, 790 State Route 61, Sunbury, OH 43074 for local teens to attend the National Youth Conference (NYC) in 2026. There is a QR code on their website if needed.
