Dorothy L. Souders, age 91, of Galena, Ohio passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at home following a long battle with dementia. On April 12, 1934, she was born in Trenton Township, Delaware County, the daughter of the late James Lester Longshore and Ina Lillian Adams.
Dorothy married Howard Hale in 1953, they shared 16 years of marriage until his passing in 1969. In 1985, she married Hylen Souders, they shared 15 years of marriage until his passing in 2000.
Dorothy was a graduate of Big Walnut High School. She was a life member of Vans Valley Community Church where she served in many areas as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Bible School Superintendent. Dorothy was also a member of Harlem Township Garden Club where she excelled in floral design and won numerous area competitions. She retired after 20 years of working at Sunbury Savings & Loan, where she started as a bank teller and was promoted many times, eventually retiring as Branch Manager.
Dorothy loved cooking and trying new recipes. She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Her proudest achievement was her three sons and raising her family. Dorothy was a wonderful, elegant lady who will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Ken (Julie) Longshore and Phil Longshore; sons, Wayne (Patty) Hale and John (Kelly) Hale; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and her loving caregiver and companion, Darla Darling.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Hale; second husband, Hylen Souders; parents, Lester and Ina Longshore; brother, Russ (Maxine) Longshore; sisters, Betty (Sam) Watts, Vi Cline McNamara (Andy, Tim) and Darlene (Robert) Kean; and her son, David Hale.
Friends may call on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. with a Funeral Service starting at 12:00 Noon at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Burial and graveside prayers will follow at Trenton Cemetery.
