David Allen Ward, Jr., known affectionately as "Dave," passed away on July 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness. Born and raised in Boston, Dave was the eldest of five children of Beverly Ward and the late David Allen Ward, Sr. Raised by his mother in Dorchester, he formed lifelong friendships along Fowler Street, Richfield Street, and Rosseter Street in Boston's Four Corners neighborhood.
A proud graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Class of 1978, Dave went on to build a dedicated and steady career. He worked for 20 years at the Gillette Company, over a decade at Pepsi where he earned the nickname "Pepsi Dave"; and later at Alstom Railway Company, a position he absolutely loved. He retired recently and was looking forward to spending more time with family and friends.
Dave was fiercely loyal, independent, and always willing to lend a hand. Known for his quick wit and humor, he was often the one behind the grill at family barbecues, cracking jokes, and greeting his nieces and nephews with his signature, "What's up, scrub?" He found joy in fishing, shooting pool, karaoke, traveling, working on his car, and fixing up his boat. He was a devoted Boston sports fan and loved being on the move whenever the opportunity arose.
A skilled swimmer and former lifeguard, Dave "swam like a fish" and served for many years at the John P. Holland School pool. Never one to shy away from adventure, he even tried skydiving. Dave lived with vibrancy, stood up for the people he loved, and never hesitated to try something new.
He was predeceased by his father, David Ward Sr., and his sister, Nadine Ward, who passed at an early age. Dave is survived by his loving mother, Beverly Ward; his brothers, Richard Ward, and Daniel Ward; his sister, Carol Ward Thomas; and his adopted sisters, Leasia Ward, and Cora Ward. He also leaves behind a beloved group of nieces and nephews: Lane Ward, Leah Ward, Nadine Thomas, Evan Ward, Jaylen Ward, Michael Ward, Jamal Hairston Jr., and Jamail Hairston; along with many cousins and friends who will carry his spirit forward.
Dave will be remembered for his determination, resilience, and independent mind. He lived life on his own terms, led with heart, and leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and love. His memory will live on in the stories we share, the smiles he inspired, and the quiet moments when we feel his presence.
