On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, David Paul Williams went to meet his Maker where he will be able to see again, be without pain, and be happy. He was born in Denton, TX to H. H. "Jack" and Margaret (Willis) Williams. He was married to Nedra Stephenson.
David graduated from the University of North Texas with two bachelor degrees and a master degree. He was a deacon in Plano First United Methodist Church and Pilot Point United Methodist Church.
David was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He later became a lifetime educator. He was Dean of Students for two years at Plano Schimelpfenig Middle School, then a Plano high school counselor at Clark High School for 28 years. It was there that he was instrumental in beginning the Baccalaureate Program, which is still in use today. He was an accomplished speaker and a beloved counselor whom the students highly respected.
In his younger days, David rode horses on trail rides and was a quick draw champion. He was skilled at detailing a car, which he learned working in his father's service stations.
During David's days working with children, he was on the board of Plano Youth Soccer Association (YSA). He coached baseball and proudly took his team to several championships. He later served on the board at Pilot Point YSA and coached baseball and soccer there. His love of sports led him to become an avid NASCAR collector and a collector of other sports memorabilia. He shared this love with his son, Christopher, who spent hours with his dad watching and discussing the most recent performances.
After David retired, he went on to earn his Licensed Professional Counseling Certificate. He then spent the next ten years serving as the counselor at numerous schools in Grayson County.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and in-laws, Ed and Marie Stephenson.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra of Pilot Point, TX; children and their spouses, Ed and Cheryl Williams of Hutchins, TX, Kaye and Kenneth Lakin of Pilot Point, TX, Jack and Carlee Williams of Aubrey, TX, Christopher Williams and his beloved Valerie Montes of McKinney, TX, Elise Williams of Aubrey, TX, and Alex Williams of Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law, Donnie Stephenson and her companion Marge Adams of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jane Moore, Michelle Gray, Jamie Meyers, Ian Lakin, Raiden Williams, Deecon Williams, and Bishop Williams; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 1:00PM-2:00PM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Pilot Point Church of Christ in Pilot Point, TX. The service will begin at 2:00PM with Craig Tullis officiating. On-line condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.
A special thanks goes to his loyal and diligent caregiver, Dani Rodriguez. Loving consideration also goes to Absolutely Angels and Concho Hearts Hospice. The family offers their thankfulness to any others who loved and cared for David.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
