In His boundless wisdom and tender compassion, God reached down from heaven and softly called one of His children home. With a quiet whisper, He said, "come with me my son," and so, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, our beloved David was gently guided into eternal rest as the Lord closed his eyes and welcomed him home.
David Woods was born February 26, 1952, in Hardeman County to the late Usley Lee and Sallie Mae Murphy/Woods. David graduated from Bolivar Industrial School in Bolivar, TN.
A proud Army veteran, David served his country with honor and dedication. Recently, he retired from Blick Clinic where he was responsible for transporting those with disabilities to and from their various appointments.
He was preceded in death by his soulmate and the lover of his soul, his wife and companion for over 35 years Lynda Caldwell-Woods, and his brother Steve K. Woods.
David, who was affectionately known to many as Bing, was a warm, loving and caring person whose warm smile and kind spirit were felt by everyone who knew him. He deeply loved his wife, children and his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. David found simple pleasures in shooting pool and watching old westerns, moments that reflected his easygoing nature.
David leaves to cherish his memory, children, Evongela Perry, Scott and Avanti (Tiffany) Caldwell; brothers, Danny L. and Usley L. (Ann) Woods; brothers-in-law, Edward (Rutha) Avent, James (Maxine) Avent, Richard "Buster" (Detra) Avent; sisters,
Carol (Keith) Cross, Kimberley (Bert) Finley; sister in-law, Geraldine Avent; grandchildren, Jasmine, Kayla, and Janae Perry, Danaya Lockett, Dayla, Kimari, Avanti "Chewy", Mariah, Avonii and Makayla Caldwell; great-grandchildren, Maliya Perry and Kenslei Lockett; uncle, Willie Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service for David on Friday December 12, 2025 at 11am at Newcomer, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. David and his wife, Lynda, will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 1:45pm on Friday.
