David Clare Woolley, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully at home in Houston, Texas on December 18, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. Born on December 15, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, David was raised in Bellaire, Texas by his loving mother Ethel Woolley.
It was in Bellaire where he cultivated a lifelong passion for baseball and formed many enduring friendships. A gifted athlete, David excelled as a catcher during his highschool and college years. His exceptional talent earned him the prestigious Bronze Glove Award in 1974 and induction into the Hall of Fame at both Bellaire High School and Sam Houston State University. Baseball remained a cornerstone of his life inspiring those fortunate enough to share in his enthusiasm for the game.
David shared 36 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sharon. Together they built a life filled with joy and love while raising their two sons; Jeremy Woolley (Misty) and Zach Woolley (Adrian). Known affectionately as "Poppy", David cherished his three grandchildren – Jackson, Parker, and Waylon – Showering them with boundless affection and encouragement. He is also survived by his three sisters: Judy (Chris), BJ, and Laurie(Gabe) as well as lifelong friends with whom he shared over six decades of cherished memories. His hunting companions and baseball teammates will forever remember the camaraderie and laughter they enjoyed together. David will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and warm spirit that touched countless lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2024 from 2 PM - 5 PM.
