David L. Wright, "Dave", age 79, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on December 12, 2024.
Dave was born on January 6, 1945, in Oceanport, NJ; he was the son of the late Robert L. and Elinor (Clayton) Wright. Dave was raised and educated in New Jersey.
Dave worked at State Street Bank for over thirty years, retiring as a Senior Vice President. He was a great advocate for his employees, often praising them for a job well done and making sure they received the promotions and raises they deserved. Dave was a great influence in helping his employees have access to college courses and supporting them as they furthered their education. Dave was a great believer in people working "with him" and not "for him." He was a great leader, and he was very proud of the team he led over the years.
Dave married his loving wife and "first mate", Bethlyn (Lewis) Wright, on June 15, 1968. They settled in Wilmington, where they shared many wonderful memories together. Dave and Bethlyn were avid boaters; they docked their boat in Safe Harbor Marina in Onset Bay. The boat was their "happy place", and they spent much of their time boating everywhere, making many friends along the way. The boat was peaceful and tranquil; just the life Dave enjoyed outside of work.
Dave was a great supporter of Beth and her faith at the Wilmington United Methodist Church.
Dave will be remembered for his calm personality; he had a voice that could put anyone at ease. He was a whiz at trivia and could remember a wide variety of information.
Dave was the beloved husband of Bethlyn L. Wright, dear brother of Carol Pardee & her husband Richard of Cataumet, Bobbie McGuire & her husband Robert Brown of North Andover and the late Gary Wright. Dave was the brother-in-law of Jim & Julie Lewis of PA and Timothy Lewis & Heather of WI. Dave is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church Street, (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations in Dave's name may be made to the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church Street, Wilmington, MA 01887 or to the Mystic Seaport Museum, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic, CT 06355.
