David F. "Whitey" Young, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Jefferson, Louisiana. Born on June 30, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Margaret Pelletere Young and the late Gerard B. Young, David's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought to all who knew him.

David was " A man of many knowledgeable Trades"

David's journey through life was shared for 54 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Margaret Porthieux Young, whom he married on February 12, 1972. Together, they built a loving family with their children, Melissa Young Henry (René), David Young Jr. (Stephanie), and Jonathan Young. His grandchildren, Sebastian (Sydney), Kassidy, and Landyn, brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

David was a man of many talents and a pillar in his community. For 45 years, he was the proud owner and driver at United Cab Co., where he shared countless stories. His expertise extended to his work as an electrician at Best Services of Louisiana and as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic. David's culinary skills shone brightly during his time as a chef at Sizzler Steakhouse.

His siblings, Mary Young Powell (Tommy), the late Donald Young (Susan), the late Daniel Young (Madrina), and Denis Young (Jude), and brother-in-law Wayne Ponthieux (Donna) will remember David for the bond they shared and the memories they created. His nieces and nephews, Amy, Alicia, Matthew, Kathleen, Rebecca, Chad, Chelby, Madaleine, Mikaela, Jessica, and Lindsey, will hold dear the kindness and laughter he brought to family gatherings.

David's interests were as diverse as his skills. He enjoyed driving 18-wheelers and sharing his knowledge of the roads with his grandson, Sebastian, whom he affectionately called Sebas. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for camping with family and friends, gardening, and fishing. David's presence was larger than life when riding on the tractor, side by side or UTV. He also enjoyed grilling on the back porch for every holiday.

A sports enthusiast, David's love for football was unwavering, especially when cheering on the Saints and LSU. He relished the excitement of playoff games and shared this passion with all who surrounded him. His favorite holiday was Christmas, a time when he could indulge in hanging lights and revel in the happiness of his family coming together. David was a man who loved to cook and, most of all, to "EAT".

David F. "Whitey" Young, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the warmth of a life well-lived. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends, as they hold onto the precious moments they shared with a man who truly made the world a brighter place.

Family and Friends are invited to celebrate David's life on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. 70001. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Service at 12:00 PM.
