Dawn Renee (Waltenberger) August, age 65, of Kendallville, passed away September 4, 2025, at home. Dawn was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on January 26, 1960, to the late DeLon Waltenberger and Shirley Frances (Counterman) Waltenberger. She was a Central Noble High School and Ivy Tech graduate and a homemaker and mother. She was married to David Ray Forker, Sr. and James Falico August. James August preceded her in death in 2017. She loved singing, spending time with her grandkids, cooking, baking, and birdwatching. She loved her dog, Mika, and traveling and mountain hiking in the western states.

Survivors include:
Her past husband, caregiver and lifelong companion, David Ray Forker, Sr. of Kendallville.
Daughter, Marissa and Gabriel Gonzalez of Kendallville.
Son, David Ray Forker, Jr. of Layton, Utah.
Daughter, Darcy August of Holden, Missouri.

Grandchildren: Seth Bender of Sheridan, Wyoming; Brooke Kennedy of Kendallville; Taylor Bender of Topeka; Mikaela Forker of Kendallville; Paige Eryman of Washington, DC; Neomi Gonzalez of Kendallville; Karrah Marcellus of Kendallville; and Isabella Forker of Layton, Utah.
Great grandchildren: Kellan, Tishie, Ariella, Karter, Jacob, Viktoria, Kinsley, Christian, Harper, Ezra, Annabelle, and Finnick.

Brother, Lonnie and Sharon Waltenberger of Kendallville.
Brother, Dennis and Jewel Waltenberger of California.
Sister, Debbie and Jr. Slone of Kentucky.
Sister, Donna Davis of Kendallville.
Brother, James "Jimmy" Waltenberger of Kendallville.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, DeLon and Shirley Waltenberger; daughter, Tishie Bender in 1997; and second husband, James August, who died in 2017.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM officiated by Banner Kidd. Burial will follow at Sweet Cemetery near Albion.
