Dawn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished member of her Cody community.
She attended West High H.S. in Appleton, Wisconsin. Dawn worked at Maverick in Cody, WY for 13 years as an Assistant/Food Manager. She has always been a hard worker, family-oriented and like family to everyone who knew her. Dawn had a heart of gold. She enjoyed putting family crockpot dinners together before going to work so it was ready when they got home. She loved crocheting and donated her handmade crafts including crocheted animals, hats, scarves, and blankets. She didn't even follow a pattern; she could look at something she wanted to crochet and always was able to create something beautiful to be cherished by family, friends and even strangers. She was always meticulous at what she did.
Dawn proudly wore the title of being a grandma. She had fun shopping all year for the Christmas season. Other passions included Cribbage, playing cards, Bingo, Keno and line games at the Casino, garage sales, road trips over the Beartooth Mts. And Yellowstone Park. She also loved attending and supporting fundraiser events for veterans, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Women for Wildlife, and CHS Band banquets.
Dawn is survived by her husband Robert Gunter of Cody, WY, sister Vickie Wheeler of Appleton, Wisconsin, daughter Amanda VanGroll of Cody, daughter Sarah VanGroll of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, son Nathan VanGroll and grandchildren Dominic, Braelyn, Brianna and Brady in Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Beth Wheeler, and infant daughter Tara VanGroll.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on November 5 at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody, WY.
Services will also be live streamed and saved on Ballard Funeral Home's YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dawn's memory to one of her favorite organizations: Cody High School Band or Rocky Mountain Women for Wildlife https://shop.rmef.org/donate/
Condolences and memories can be shared after the service with cookies, brownies and beverages at Ballard Funeral Home or on Dawn's memorial page at www.BallardFH.com
