Dawn Anthony Stoudt, 90, of Scotland, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday afternoon July 4 th,
2023 surrounded by family and friends.
Dawn was the first born to William B. Anthony and Marian Evans Anthony, on November 23, 1932, where her family resided in Strausstown, Pennsylvania. Dawn grew up in Strausstown and went to elementary school with Byrd James Stoudt, who would later become her husband and life partner on November 27, 1957.
Dawn graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics in 1954 and Shippensburg University where she earned a
Master's Degree in Special Education in 1976.
Dawn and Byrd Stoudt had two children, eldest Elizabeth Stoudt Rahauser, married to Charles F. Rahauser, living in Chambersburg and James Anthony Stoudt, married to Helen "Dee" Stoudt of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Dawn had with two beloved grandchildren; Elizabeth Rahauser Cox, married to Benjamin M. Cox, of Wheeling WV and Charles Anthony Rahauser, married to Lesley E. Rahauser of Charlotte, NC and she has been blessed with the fun and enjoyment of two great-granddaughters, Brook and Claire Cox of Wheeling, WV.
Dawn spent many years as a Home Economics teacher at Faust Junior High School, in
Chambersburg and participated in a variety of professional organizations and enjoyed
volunteering for several causes. Dawn was a member of St. John's United Church of
Christ Church in Chambersburg. There was little that was more entertaining to Dawn
than playing a competitive game of cards with her family and her ladies' groups. She
loved entertaining friends and making new friends with good food and fellowship and did
so in her last years. Dawn was very talented in knitting, needle arts, and cooking.
She and BJ traveled throughout the United States and much of Europe, where they
enjoyed making new friends and developed many long lasting relationships.
Dawn and BJ wintered in Florida, in their later years traveling with their faithful
companion dog, Chip; visiting friends and enjoying making new friends- there was
always lots of laughter and fun stories to reminisce about.
Services for Dawn will be held in Chambersburg at St. John's United Church of Christ
1811 Lincoln Way East on Friday, July 14, 2023. The service will begin at 10:00 AM. The immediate family and anyone wishing, will travel to a graveside service to
be held at the Strausstown Cemetery located at 6573 Old Route, 22, Strausstown, PA at
2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, send memorials in Dawn's name to
St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA. Send
