Funeral services for Mr. De'Wayne Douglas Bailey will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Dry Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Bailey and Jody Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Dry Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Bailey, 64, of Dry Creek, entered eternal rest on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Allen Parish Community Healthcare, Kinder, LA.
De'Wayne was born in DeRidder, Louisiana, and graduated as Valedictorian of East Beauregard High School in 1980. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering Technology from Louisiana Tech University in 1984. In June of that same year, he married the love of his life, Janet. For over forty years, De'Wayne and Janet were faithful members of Dry Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development on November 1, 2021, after thirty-four years of dedicated service. De'Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, who found great joy in bow hunting, fishing, woodworking, and traveling, especially to Montana. He loved spending time with his family, but also appreciated a quiet nap or a good book. More than anything, De'Wayne loved the Lord and developed a deep passion for studying God's Word. His life was a testament to faith, integrity, and love, and we praise God for his life and the peace that comes from knowing he is now with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bethard Edward Bailey, Jr.; his stepfather, Aaron Schwartz; one brother, Donald Simpson; and one stepsister, Michelle Schwartz.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-one years, Janet Sue Bailey of Dry Creek; two sons, Stephen Bailey (Katelyn) of Oakdale, and James Bailey (Andrea) of Benton; one daughter, Megan Bailey of Lake Charles; his mother, Ivy Schwartz of Lake Charles; one brother, Bethard "Eddie" Bailey, III (Sherry) of Virginia; one stepsister, Melissa Schwartz of Louisiana; one grandson, Gavyn Hazelett; and two granddaughters, Jayden Hazelett and Riley Hazelett.
A time of visitation will be held at Dry Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Stephen Bailey, James Bailey, Eddie Bailey, Carson Campbell, Jody Campbell, and Todd Burnaman.
The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Frances Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Allen Parish Community Healthcare Hospital, Harbor Hospice, and Dry Creek Baptist Church for the compassionate care and support provided to De'Wayne.
