Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors - AmarilloDean Butler, 94, of Amarillo, TX passed away Monday, August 11, 2025.
The memorial graveside will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2025, at Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado, TX with Pastor Larry Virnau of AccentCare officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Dean was born November 18, 1930, in Dallas, TX to Opal Margaret (Stevens) and Norris Dean Butler.
Dean was a graduate of Southern Methodist University and served in the Navy. He was a deputy sheriff in Trinidad, CO, Taos, NM, and Santa Fe, NM then began ranching where he ran the Moreno Ranch in Eagle’s Nest, NM until his retirement.
Dean was a gun enthusiast and a member of Amarillo Gun Club, Amarillo Gun Club Trap & Skeet, Pioneer Gun Collectors, Amarillo Pistol & Rifle Club, and the N.R.A.
The family wishes to send their deepest appreciation to AccentCare for the heartfelt attention that was given to Dean in his last few weeks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Danielle Merrick.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Butler, of Amarillo, TX; his children, Deana Murry, of Wichita, KS, Bobby Butler, of Weatherford, TX, and Vicki Burrell (Jim), of Claude, TX; grandchildren, Natalie Johnson, Trey Murray, Michael Butler, Shelby Walker, Amanda Loftis, Chris Burrell, Kayla Merrick, and Cody Merrick; and great-grandchildren, London, Addison, Erin, Savana, Piper, Avery, Mason, Tice, Scarlett, Clay, and Maylee.
