Parks, Dean R., 89, retired Superintendent for USD 263, passed away Thursday, July 25th, 2024. He was born March 20th, 1935 to O.W. "Doc" and Eva Parks, in Emporia, KS.
Dean graduated high school in Cottonwood Falls, KS in 1953. He then joined the United States Navy where he was stationed in Kamiseya, Japan from 1953 to 1957. After serving his country, he earned his Bachelor's Degree then Master's Degree at Emporia State University. He was an educator, coach, and Superintendent of Schools for 37 years. Dean enjoyed KState & Chiefs football games, collecting antiques, going on bus trips with the love of his life, Civilla, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and working in his yard. He was also a member of the Mulvane United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, and Lyons Club.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Civilla, and younger brother, Gary Parks. Survivors include his children, Kyle (Sheena) Parks, Janelle (Dale) Murrow; grandchildren, Austin Parks, Laine (John) Leek, Garrett Murrow and Josie Murrow; a great-granddaughter, Jayci Leek; caregivers, Tamra Farmer, Lexi and special dog Scarlett (AKA "Booger") of Park City,KS and Linda Byer of Mulvane, KS.
Memorial Service is 11:00 am, Friday, August 2nd, 2024 at the Mulvane United Methodist Church, 107 S. Central Mulvane, Kansas 67110.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mulvane Senior Center, 632 E Mulvane St, Mulvane, KS 67110.
