Dean Edward Peterson, 88, of Indiana, formerly of Rural Valley, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, in St. Andrews Village. Dean was born in Westmoreland County on June 18, 1937, to the late Charles W. and Jennie (Silvas) Peterson.

After high school graduation, Dean served our country in the United States Air Force. Upon his service completion, Dean worked the next 32 years for Peoples Natural Gas Company. Dean was a tinkerer, he enjoyed gardening and golfing, he was highly skilled at woodworking, often making items for family and friends, however he mastered the skill of wood carving. He could look at anything, take a block of wood, and carve an exact replica. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana.

Surviving Dean is his wife of 64 years, Kathryn "Kay" (Steele) Peterson, son Ret. Col. Robert D. (Rhonda) Peterson, of Procterville, OH, daughter Kimberly (Seid) Peterson-Ramazan, of Forest Hills, NY, grandchildren Bryan Peterson, Cullen (Sabel) Peterson, Ian (Fiancé Kiara Smith) Ramazan, and Katrina Ramazan, two great grandchildren Jacob Peterson and Lindsey Thomas, a half-brother Andrew Peterson, several nieces and nephews, and his Yorkie Benny.

Besides his parents, Dean was preceded in death by a brother Alvin Peterson and an infant sister at her birth.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11 am at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 695 School Street, Indiana. A reception will follow.
