On May 3, 2025, Debra (Debbie) Ann Kenney (nee Bridgewater) died in Manhattan, Kansas. She was 64 years old.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Chris Brown; her son, Ryan Kenney, his wife Ashley Kenney (nee Brown), and their two children Tyson and Landree; her son Jared Kenney, his wife Christina Kenney (nee Carpenter), and their two children Kylie and Reagan; her son Nicholas Kenney, his wife Amanda Sipes, and their three children Elliott, Katherine, and Charlotte Sipes-Kenney; her step daughter, Kassandra Burris (nee Brown) and her husband Jason Burris; her step daughter Abigale Shaw (nee Brown) and her fiance Craig Fuller; her sister, Susan Carpenter (nee Bridgewater) and her husband Myron Carpenter; her brother Steven Bridgewater and his wife Kathy Bridgewater (nee Jelinek); and her sister Janet Himelick (nee Bridgewater) and her husband Robert Himelick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Barbara Bridgewater (nee Knaup).
Debbie was born on June 10, 1960, in Manhattan, Kansas. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1978. She attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1994. Debbie married Mark Kenney in 1981 with whom she had her three sons Ryan and Jared (born 1984) and Nicholas (born 1987). Debbie was remarried to Chris Brown on February 14, 2004.
Debbie worked as an office manager for various medical offices around Manhattan and was a professional insurance coder. Debbie was an avid gardener in her better health, spending hours every week attending to her garden (and often enlisting the service of her three sons despite their desires to be doing just about anything else). Debbie loved spending time with friends and family and loved to laugh. She loved animals and had a knack for having animals (particularly cats) find her and get adopted.
The family would like to express its appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Dane Ditto and Becca Haugaard, among many other medical professionals who attended to Debbie as her health declined over the years.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday May 10 at 1:00pm in the Blue Hills Room at RC McGraws in Manhattan, Kansas with remarks at 2:00pm. Per Debbie's wishes, no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to express their condolences make donations to the Riley County (Kansas) Humane Society, in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas66502
