Obituary for
Debbie Mullins
Mrs. Debra Kay "Debbie" (Deaton) Mullins departed this life on Friday, October 11, 2024, in Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of 68. She was born October 25, 1955, in Newport, Arkansas, the daughter of William "Bud" and Lafa (Stone) Deaton.
Debbie graduated from Newport High School in 1973. After high school, she worked at American Lantern and Brown Jordan. She then earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from White River Vo-Tech, now known as ASU-Newport. Following her certification, Debbie worked at Pinedale Nursing Home in Newport, later moving to Wood-Lawn Heights in Batesville before retiring and relocating to Huntsville, Alabama.
Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and nurse. Although she wasn't always outspoken, she consistently went above and beyond for her family, rarely missing any of her children's activities. Debbie also loved participating in costume contests to celebrate her favorite holiday, Halloween.
After retiring, Debbie most enjoyed traveling and camping in Georgia with her companion, Billy. She met many people during their travels, and her friends in Georgia referred to her as "Firecracker."
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Cotton Mullins, on July 15, 2011; and her parents.
Debbie is survived by her children, Matthew Mullins of Rogers, Arkansas, and Amber Slagley and husband, Casey, of Newport; one treasured grandson, Nathan Slagley; one sister, Jane Womble of Hot Springs; her special companion, Billy Ray McFall of Huntsville, Alabama; several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Liver Foundation at liverfoundation.org, or by mail at Charitable Giving, American Liver Foundation, P.O. Box 299, West Orange, NJ 07052.
No services are planned at this time, but a celebration of life may be announced in the future.
