Debra Volk, 72,
Minot, ND, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Miller Pointe Nursing Home, Mandan.
Debra Lee Hausauer was born April 5, 1951, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Sparrow) Hausauer, in Bismarck. She was raised on the family farm 16 miles north of McClusky. She attended country school until grade 7 and graduated from McClusky High School in 1969. She furthered her education at Minot State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education in 1972. Following graduation, Debbie taught in Sheyenne and Towner.
Debbie married Gary Volk on August 31, 1974. They made their home in Jamestown where she worked at The Crippled Children's School. They were blessed with three children, Cory, Eric, and Sara.
In 1977, they moved to Souris and Debbie stayed home to raise their children and ran an in-home daycare. They moved to Granville in 1980, where she continued to stay at home with the children, run an in-home daycare, and she worked as a substitute teacher. In 1992, Debbie began teaching at Nedrose School. In 2001, Debbie and Gary moved to Minot and she continued to work at Nedrose School until her retirement in 2016. Gary passed away January 19, 2014.
Debbie was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was part of the women's group. She was a member of DKG, Auxiliary, and book club. Debbie was a 4-H Leader for many years, involved in Homemakers & FCE, American Legion Auxiliary, PTO, and Sports Boosters.
She enjoyed traveling. She traveled with Gary, her kids & her grandkids, and her siblings, cousins, and friends. Debbie even adventured on her own including a once in a lifetime trip to Australia. These trips together are some of her family's most treasured memories. She loved the Vikings and the Twins. She enjoyed watching games on TV but she loved to travel to games in the stadiums with family and friends.
Debbie was a collector of nativities, collecting over 100. Those attending services are invited to take a nativity home with them.
Debbie, as the oldest of four was always taking care of others. She was actively involved in the lives of her adult children, offering support and care throughout her life. She shared this care equally with her siblings and her many nieces and nephews, to her children's spouses, and to her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. She was a caretaker to all those around her. Debbie treasured time together most of all. She was there for all of it, the big events and the small events in the family's lives. Rarely did she miss a grandchild's event; often she traveled hours to be there. Time together always included a meal. She was famous for her homemade donuts and lefse at family gatherings. Her grandchildren will always remember trips for ice cream, late night pizza parties, early morning caramel rolls with fried sausage, and the many goodies on the counter for the holidays.
Her loving family includes: children, Cory (Anne) Volk, Bismarck, Eric Volk, Mandan, Sara (Chris) Laite, Devils Lake; grandchildren, Alaina, Kaitlyn, and Noah Volk, Shae Ann ( Derek) Weinreis, Camryn Volk, and Egan and Talia Laite; great-grandchild, Reece Weinreis;
brothers, Ed (Betty) Hausauer, Minot, Steve (Dell Rae) Hausauer, Kief, Jim (Patty) Hausauer, Fargo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deb was genuine, authentic, and kind. She was talkative and could chat with anyone about anything but loved talking about the Twins, farming, education, and her family. Deb was easy to talk to and easy to love. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
